Minneapolis residents work hard for the city we love. We deserve a Mayor that works as hard as we do.

My name is Omar Fateh – I’m a State Senator, husband, renter, son of Somali immigrants, and a long-time advocate for working people. I’m running for Mayor of Minneapolis to work with you to achieve the vibrant, loving city we know Minneapolis can be.

For working people, it’s getting harder to build our lives in Minneapolis. And with Donald Trump stepping back into the Oval Office, everything we’ve worked so hard to create is in jeopardy. It's not enough to just stand up to Donald Trump. It’s time to push back with forward-thinking leadership.

Mayor Frey and the status quo are failing Minneapolis residents. We deserve leadership that makes it so people want to continue to live here, raise families here, and start businesses here.

Minneapolis must be a north star for our nation in a dark time. We can show the country what happens when we invest in people, not corporate special interests. Block by block, we’re already building the city we want to see. It’s time we had a Mayor willing to work alongside us.

I’m committed to building a city that works for everyone. Serving in the Minnesota Senate, I’ve seen firsthand what a progressive legislature can do with the right executive. As Mayor, I will work with the progressive City Council to achieve tangible wins for our neighbors and uplift those of us who are struggling to get by.

Jacob Frey first ran for Mayor seven years ago with a promise to end homelessness by 2022, and more people are living without a home today as a result of his failed policies. It’s been over four years since MPD Officer Derek Chauvin murdered George Floyd, and he still hasn’t delivered on a vision for public safety. He vetoes every solution that comes to his desk. It’s time for a Mayor who has real solutions that puts Minneapolis residents first.

I’ve worked on a range of issues in the State Senate that directly meet the needs of people in our communities: funding free college tuition for tens of thousands of Minnesotans; securing a statewide living wage for Uber and Lyft drivers; investing $19 million dollars for public safety in Minneapolis; saving the 2040 Plan to make sure we are building more affordable housing; and ensuring a cleaner environment for all of us via the 100% Clean Energy Bill. Now, I’m ready to bring that leadership to City Hall.

We need a Mayor who understands that a city that lifts up working people is a city that lifts up everyone. Because when the city invests in us, we have more time to invest in the people we love.

From the streets to City Hall, Minneapolis is full of people who are ready to invest in long-term solutions that will bring security and stability to our communities. Minneapolis residents work hard for the city we love. We deserve a Mayor that works as hard as we do.

Mayor Frey and the status quo are failing Minneapolis residents.

We deserve leadership that makes it so people want to continue to live here, raise families here, and start businesses here.
